The Windy Cabin is a Mountain Modern residence built by HR Pacific in 2017 on Windermere Lake, British Columbia. Designed by North Architecture Studio Inc., the project marked the second collaboration between the two teams. The home is defined by its large roof overhangs and wide lift-and-slide windows by Kolbe Windows, which open the interiors to views of the lake while providing shade and protection from the summer sun.
The structure incorporates fir cross laminated timber panels from Structurlam and glulam beams, giving the home both strength and warmth. These materials, combined with the architectural detailing, establish a balance between modern design and a welcoming character. Timber elements are expressed throughout the home, emphasizing the use of natural materials in a contemporary form.
The property has been in the family for generations, and the new residence was built with the intention that it will be enjoyed for many years to come. Through its construction and design, the Windy Cabin reflects a collaboration between client, architect, and builder to create a lasting family home on Windermere Lake.
