OUR STORY:
From Small Beginnings
to Mountain Heights

HR Pacific Construction Management was born in Greater Vancouver, founded by David Ratzlaff and supported by his four sons. The company started small with a big belief that good buildings come from care, integrity, and pride. From the very beginning, their focus was on quality and craftsmanship, traits that quickly set them apart in a competitive market.
Through a fortunate connection with architects who cared about design as much as the build, HR Pacific got a call that would change everything. The opportunity took them to Golden, a charming town nestled in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia. Here, they were tasked with building the day lodge at the base of Kicking Horse Ski Hill. The project was a success, showcasing HR Pacific’s dedication and skill and revealing a simple truth: the most rewarding work often comes with a little altitude and a lot of responsibility.

Their work at Kicking Horse led to another exciting project: constructing the Eagles Eye Restaurant at the mountain's peak. The restaurant, with its stunning 360-degree views, was a masterpiece of architecture set against nature’s grandeur. The successful day lodge and Eagles Eye builds led to numerous resort homes for world-class architects and clients. Up there, with the whole valley laid out below, something clicked. This was not only about building structures. It was about creating places worthy of the effort it takes to reach them, and worthy of the people who would gather there. David realized HR Pacific could help ambitious architecture
meet real-world conditions without losing the details that make it special.

David’s passion for construction runs deep. His ancestors were skilled craftsmen who built timber frame homes, and this legacy of mass timber construction became a fundamental part of the company’s identity. This heritage influenced HR Pacific’s commitment to blending traditional techniques with modern innovation, especially where wood, structure, and craftsmanship intersect.

Inspired by these experiences, HR Pacific shifted its focus to boutique resort homes. They began to attract clients who shared a passion for exquisite architecture and the great outdoors. David’s vision was clear: to create homes that were not just elegant but also thoughtfully designed for the landscapes they live in. They were places where the design felt intentional, and the craftsmanship could stand up to mountain life.

Building in remote, high snow load areas with short building seasons brought unique challenges. Yet, HR Pacific adapted and thrived. They developed innovative approaches, such as offsite-built components and just-in-time delivery using advanced Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology. These strategies ensured that even the most complex projects were executed efficiently and to the highest standards. In places where winter shows up early and stays late, planning is not paperwork. It is how you keep promises.

At HR Pacific, the team excels in bringing the most intricate architectural designs to life. Renowned architects trust them to handle their most challenging projects, knowing that they can navigate complex requirements and deliver exceptional results. They are often drawn to the hard ones: steep sites, heavy snow loads, tight access, and short seasons. Those constraints have a way of sharpening focus, and they leave little room for excuses. Their expertise in constructing sophisticated homes from these intricate designs not only demonstrates their craftsmanship and innovation but also enhances the art of living for their clients. Their “why” is simple: to turn complexity into calm, and to build places that feel good to live in. Not just on move-in day, but months later, when the novelty has worn off and the home still feels effortless, comfortable, and quietly impressive. Each project is a testament to their commitment to creating spaces that elevate everyday life through thoughtful design and a deep respect for the environment around them.
A work in progress
HR Pacific’s reputation for excellence and innovation soon led to expansion. They established a significant presence in Golden, Invermere, Revelstoke, Vancouver, and Victoria. Each new location brought fresh opportunities, and HR Pacific met them with the same commitment to quality and ingenuity that had driven their early success and a steady belief that the best work is built with humility, care, and respect for place.

From their modest beginnings in Greater Vancouver to becoming a distinguished construction management company, HR Pacific’s journey is a testament to David Ratzlaff’s vision and determination. Specializing in boutique resort homes that celebrate the harmony of nature and architecture, HR Pacific continues to attract discerning clients and esteemed architects, solidifying its place as a leader in the construction industry. With every project, they return to what the mountains taught them early on: build it beautifully, build it to last, and build it like it matters, because it does.
