Kicking Horse Residence

Residential

The Kicking Horse Residence is a slope-side modern resort home built by HR Pacific in 2012 at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, British Columbia. Designed by Bohlin Grauman Miller Architects in affiliation with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, the residence is a classic Peter Bohlin design that combines board-formed concrete, steel, and timber in its exposed structure. Invisible fastening systems were used throughout the home to maintain clean lines and allow the materials to be fully expressed.

The residence demonstrates the power of precision in construction, with every component executed to align with the architectural vision. For HR Pacific, this project represented a true opportunity to showcase the team’s craftsmanship on an ambitious and highly detailed mountain home.

The Kicking Horse Residence has received widespread recognition. It was a finalist in 2012 for the Canadian Homebuilders’ Association Georgie Awards in the category of Custom Home valued between $1.5 and $3 million. The design went on to receive the Award of Merit in the 2013 Honor Awards for Washington Architecture, as well as the American Architecture Award in 2013. Further recognition came through the Merit Award from the 2013 Residential Architect Design Awards, the Honour Award from the 2012 Wood Design and Building Awards, and the 2012 Design Award from the AIA Northwest and Pacific Region. The project was also featured by Schweiss in a press release highlighting the precision of a designer door installation.
