The Hutton Residence is located in Golden, British Columbia, at the edge of the Columbia Valley forest. Conceived as a timber retreat, the home is defined by a steep gable roof and straightforward massing that anchors it within its alpine surroundings.
The structure is built from reclaimed timber, exposed throughout the interior. Each beam retains its original marks and joinery, preserving the material’s history. The exposed framework defines the open living areas and highlights the craftsmanship central to the home’s construction.
Inside, a vaulted ceiling of timber trusses spans the main living space. Natural light moves across smooth plaster walls, white cabinetry, and oak flooring, balanced by granite counters and aged timber.
The exterior is clad in barn-red horizontal siding with white trim. Timber-framed porches and generous decks extend living space toward the forest and surrounding mountain views. The design reflects traditional timber craft while maintaining a contemporary approach suited to the Columbia Valley landscape.
