The Flatwillow Luxury Estate is a ski-in, ski-out residence built by HR Pacific in 2012 at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, British Columbia. Designed by architect Mark Burkart, the home was envisioned as a mountain retreat that would blend naturally into its alpine environment while providing the owners with a resort residence of exceptional quality.
The name Flatwillow reflects the unique Living Sandstone used throughout the project. The stone was field-picked with natural lichen left intact, creating continuity between the home and its surroundings. Extensive stonework is complemented by the use of fir and cedar, expressed through timbers, wall finishes, and millwork. To further enrich the character of the materials, the timbers were charred and wire brushed, giving them a rustic and tactile finish.
The careful integration of natural materials, balanced with architectural clarity, results in a home that feels at once modern, warm, and deeply rooted in place. For HR Pacific, the project illustrates the precision and craftsmanship required to execute a custom estate where every material detail supports the design intent.
